E and A Save the Dates

I was asked by my brother-in-law and future sister-in-law to produce a photo for them that they can use for their Save the Dates.  All the examples here are the same photo (obviously), just different processing.  I’d love to know which one you like the best.

Kanga Take Two

Filed under: Animals, Black and White, Friends — Tags: , — MB @ 1:23 am

Here are some more photos of Kanga, our awesome dog and the frequent (sometimes unwilling) subject of my picture taking.

KangaBW

This is one of my favorite shots.  It actually won second place in the pet poster contest at work.

Kanga is a very difficult subject who always tries to jump all over me whenever I try to take his picture.  Often I have to wait until he is asleep before I can get a decent shot.

100_2424

I had to practically straddle the poor dog in order to get this shot.

100_2424_3

Here is the same shot, only in black and white.

Here is Kanga on the kitchen floor.  He was helping L and I make dinner.

Luray Caverns

L and I did many amazing things on our Tinymoon.  It has clearly taken me a long time to process all of the photos so that I can share them with you.  One rainy day, she and I went to the Luray Caverns in the small town of Luray, VA.  I would recommend everyone visit the caverns at least once.  They have some of the most amazing rock formations I’ve ever seen.

100_2005

Here is an example of the many stalactites, stalagmites, and ribbon-shaped rock formations we saw in the caverns.

100_2030

I really like the color contrast in this photo between the red rocks and the green water.  Unfortunately, the Luray Caverns staff allow patrons to throw money into this particular subterranean pool.  The copper in the coins is what makes the water appear so green, which contrasts nicely with the iron oxides in the rocks, but is not natural to the environment.

Here are a few cool shots from around our home in Alexandria.

St. Louis Arch

Filed under: Architecture, Landscapes, Places — Tags: , — MB @ 9:21 pm

Here are a few arch photos from my trip to St. Louis last year.  I traveled there for the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) conference.  I hope that you enjoy them.

The arch in St. Louis, MO.  The people standing in front of it (bottom left) give you an idea just how massive it is.

100_0537

Here is another shot of the arch at dusk.  It looked much different than I had imagined, and it was also much bigger.  For whatever reason, I expected it to be made of stone (like the monuments in DC), but the arch is made of steel.  It looks almost alien when you are near it because of its size.

Here is another view of the arch.

Quemahoning

Some of you might remember my post about the Quemahoning Reservoir near Johnstown, PA.  I’ve decided to post a few more shots I have from my trip there with my brother in law.

100_0589

The Quemahoning (or “Que” as it is called in Johnstown) in early Fall.  I saturated the blues in this image to make the colors pop.

100_0582_6

This is identical to the above shot, only made to look vintage.

100_0581_3

You might remember this shot from one of my previous posts.

100_0581

Same as the above shot, only in full color.  I saturated the blues here like in the first photo.

100_0578

This is a withered tree at the edge of the reservoir.

100_0576

Apparently the Que is a popular place to go boating, although we didn’t see anybody else there the day we went.

The changing trees on the shoreline.

L Head Shots

My wife absolutely loves wedding planning and is currently in the process of starting her own wedding planning venture.  Yesterday we went into DC so I could take some head shots for her, which she plans to use for all aspects of her wedding planning venture.  I’ve posted some that I really liked, as well as a few of downtown DC.

100_2537_2

This is one of my favorite shots of L.  She is facing the western side of the Washington Monument.

100_2537

This is the same shot, only the color version.

100_2536_3

This shot is similar to the above two, only processed to have a vintage look.

100_2526_1

This shot was taken on the bench that surrounds the Washington Monument.

100_2523_4

Again, like the above shot, this one was taken on the same bench.

This is the reflecting pool between the World War II Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial just before dusk.  You can see the sun setting over the Lincoln Memorial in the distance.

Engagement – Revisited

Filed under: Engagements, Friends, People — Tags: , — MB @ 1:00 am

Some of you might remember when I did a mini engagement photo session for my brother-in-law and his now-fiancee.  When I changed the format of the blog, I had to delete those photos to keep the formatting consistent.  I’ve decided to repost some of my favorites.  I hope you enjoy them.  All of the photos were taken in Johnstown, PA.

More from the Valley

It’s been a while since I was last able to post photos from L and my Tinymoon trip to the Shenandoah Valley.  Here are a few more miscellaneous photos that I didn’t get to post yet, as well as one from the Grey Ghost Vineyards, which is a Virginia winery that we stopped at on our way home.

RocksThis rocky cliff was near the Big Meadow Lodge, where L and I stayed. We saw a bear down in the valley from this vantage point, but unfortunately I was unable to get a photo of him because there were too many other people standing in the way.

Mountain2I took this shot on our way down the mountain as we were leaving on our last day.

Mountain1This is the same as the above shot, only in color.

Meadow3Here is another version of a shot from a previous post (Big Meadow) that I thought you might like.

Vineyard2One of the vineyards of Gray Ghost Vineyards. L and I stopped here to do some wine tasting on our way home.

Shenandoah Valley – Waterfalls

I think that the most spectacular things L and I saw while on our Tinymoon were the waterfalls.  We hiked approximately 10 miles total over the course of the trip, and trekked a small portion of the Appalachian Trail.  We saw two impressive waterfalls, and I was able to get some decent photos of the Dark Hollow Falls.  It was very misty that day, which made the trek down into the valley surreal.  I’ve documented our journey here.
